Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2, 2026

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide the DepartureAlert service:

  • Phone number — to send you SMS departure alerts and verification codes.
  • Email address — for account creation and service communications.
  • Home address (optional) — to calculate drive time to the airport.
  • Flight information — departure airport, date, time, and airline/flight number to generate your alerts.
  • Travel preferences — such as TSA PreCheck status, transport mode, and buffer time preferences.
  • Google Calendar data (optional) — if you connect your Google Calendar, we read calendar events to automatically detect flights. We only access event titles, dates, and locations. We do not modify your calendar.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To send SMS departure alert messages to your phone number.
  • To send verification codes when you register your phone number.
  • To calculate personalized departure times using traffic and TSA data.
  • To detect flights from your Google Calendar (if connected).

We do not use your information for marketing, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to the DepartureAlert service.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties except as necessary to provide the service:

  • Twilio — to deliver SMS messages to your phone number.
  • Google Maps — to calculate drive time from your address to the airport. Your address is sent to Google for routing purposes only.
  • Google Calendar API — to read your calendar events if you opt in to calendar sync.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a secured PostgreSQL database. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Phone verification codes are hashed and expire after 10 minutes. We use HTTPS for data in transit and follow standard security practices to protect your information.

5. Opting Out of SMS

You can stop receiving SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message from DepartureAlert. After opting out, you will receive a single confirmation message and no further SMS messages will be sent. You can opt back in at any time by re-entering your phone number on our website.

For help with SMS, reply HELP to any message or contact us at the email below.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the settings page. Upon deletion, all personal information including your phone number, address, flight data, and calendar tokens are permanently removed.

7. Google Calendar Data

If you connect your Google Calendar, we access your calendar in read-only mode to detect flight events. We store an OAuth token to maintain the connection. You can disconnect your calendar at any time from the settings page, which immediately revokes our access and deletes the stored token.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
